Converge 2014: Why Current College Students Should Attend

posted by on September 23, 2014 in Converge Blog

As a college student, I see attending Converge 2014 as a great opportunity for college students who are AMA members or interested in marketing. There are a few ways Converge 2014 is beneficial for this audience:

  • Great insight into the world of digital marketing
  • Excellent networking opportunities.
  • A greater understanding of higher education as an industry.

Digital Marketing Knowledge

Sadly, many colleges and universities don’t offer classes with a main focus in digital marketing. Attending Converge 2014 will give you first-hand knowledge of the world of digital marketing – even providing some students their first look into the world of digital marketing.

Sessions like “Web Strategy” with speaker Julie Campbell will allow students to better understand who websites serve, how well the website tells the story of the brand, how to define success in relation to integrated marketing efforts, and how to be proactive about protecting business goals on the web.

Networking Opportunities

Many higher education marketing professionals will be presenting at Converge 2014, and this is a great opportunity for college students to network with them. The relaxed atmosphere of the conference helps to promote this kind of collaboration even more.

Heather Sayre Jordan’s session, “Partnerships that Payback” will allow colleges to have a clear approach to entering a business, developing and nurturing relationships over time with realistic outcomes. Students will be able to apply this knowledge to their own lives, as we will soon be entering the business world.

Higher Education as an Industry

Prior to beginning my internship with Converge, I had limited knowledge and understanding of higher education as an industry. My internship has opened my eyes to the world of higher education and I now have a better understanding of the industry that I am currently supporting by receiving a college education. I believe that it is very beneficial for many other college students to have a similar understanding of the industry in which we all support.

It’s not too late to sign up for Converge 2014 today!
